We're deeply passionate about how great SCUBA diving is, and we're keen to share the experience. It's a fun, safe sport suitable for most people, provided you are adequately trained, and that's where we can help!
We run a rolling training programme for our members throughout the year. Our instructors are all volunteers, so training costs you nothing after your membership fee and you can feel confident that you're being taught by someone who really loves what they're doing! All of our instructors hold national qualifications through the British Sub-Aqua Club, our governing body. We're also affiliated to Sport & Physical Activity at the University of Sheffield who support and regulate our activities as a sports club of the University of Sheffield.
How our training schedule applies to you depends on whether you are brand new to diving or if you already have some diving experience.
Our only restrictions are:
-
You must be a student, member of staff, or alumnus of the University of Sheffield or Sheffield Hallam University
-
You must already be able to swim. Although SCUBA can be a great way to improve your confidence in the water, we are unable to provide swimming lessons and you must be able to swim before you can join the club.
-
You must meet the minimum health/medical standards as defined by BSAC
BSAC Ocean Diver
For people new to diving, BSAC Ocean Diver is the first rung on the ladder. As an Ocean Diver, you can dive to 20m with other Ocean Divers (in familiar conditions) or expand you experience diving with instructors. If you've never dived before this is the place to start!
Further Training
Already a diver? We love it when qualified divers want to come and join SUSAC! We accept all diving qualifications and can help you progress your training on the BSAC ladder.
Instructor Development
Interested in becoming an instructor and training the next generation of divers? We can help you in your development towards being a fully qualified instructor.
