Sheffield University Sub-Aqua Club was founded in the early 70's and became a branch of the British Sub-Aqua Club in 1975. We are a very active club within the university, and have a membership of around 70. The club offers internationally recognised BSAC qualifications from entry level through to instructor standards, all taught by Nationally qualified instructors who are SUSAC members. We can take on up to 24 novices each year, and are always over-subscribed, so get in quick if you want to learn to dive! The club also welcomes lots of qualified divers each year, both from BSAC and other organisations. Lots of students learn to dive on holiday or in their year out and then join SUSAC so they can carry on diving in the UK and meet other divers, get involved in the club and go diving. The club owns nearly 20 sets of diving equipment - cylinders, Apeks regulators, Buddy BCD's and weights and weightbelts. All are regularly maintained, and lots of it is shiny and new this year! Kit is provided free for training, and is rented at a very reasonable rate for members to use on trips. In May 2008 we were delighted to receive a grant from the University of Sheffield’s Alumni Foundation. As a result we have been able to purchase new equipment, subsidise our members embarking on instructor courses and put further funding into our training program. We're always on the lookout for new recruits, whether already trained divers or otherwise. All you'll is need a sense of humour, a bit of commitment to learning how to dive or to diving with the club, and bags of enthusiasm. The more you put into the club, the more you get out, so come along, join up and start enjoying some exciting diving with the most friendly and active club at the University! Go on, get in touch, you know you want to. |
